There are two types of vacuum tubes in the vehicle: one is used for the brake booster, and the other for the distributor’s ignition advance mechanism. Their function is to supply vacuum to one side of the booster diaphragm while allowing the other side to communicate with the atmosphere. In this way, the atmospheric pressure on the diaphragm pushes the pushrod forward, thereby providing power assistance.
1. The braking system includes a vacuum booster that requires vacuum.
2. Some variable intake manifold technologies require vacuum control.
3. Some cruise control systems require vacuum control.
4. The removal of fuel vapors from the charcoal canister requires a vacuum.
5. The crankcase ventilation system requires vacuum.
6. Some air-conditioning systems require vacuum to switch between different ducts. A vacuum reservoir is essentially a sealed container connected via a vacuum line to the engine’s intake manifold. Whenever vacuum is needed in a vehicle, the source can be drawn from this reservoir.
